“Tui in our garden”

We are very lucky over the years to have these lovely birds visit our garden for a stop at the feeder. We have two different types, a Pekapeka which is an upright glass cylinder that attaches to a stake, this type of feeder has a spout at the bottom and a ball bearing when tapped releases the prepared sugar water.

The second is just a chicken water feeder, that screws into a small red base and as the level goes down it refills. While this is ok to use the plastic does require a lot of cleaning and also we found ants and bees can drown in the sugar water. Placing the feeder in a shallow tray and filling that with water to act as a moat did stop the ants but we still get the odd bee. While this is not an ideal we prefer both as we do have Kereru come for a drink from time to time and it of course has not got the beak to use the Pekapeka.

These are not perfect images you would use in a competition or sell, they are a pictorial collection of what happens in our garden.
